The links to your left were active as of this posting and more will come as time goes by. Please feel free to leave me a link to check out or go and sign up and donate or start a project of your own. This month we are donating our $40 to the Genocide Intervention Networks STANDfast project which goes to aid women in Darfur in collecting firewood and to people in Burma to provide a communications system to those who are in danger of ethnically focused attacks.
We will keep you up to date as to what we are doing and I hope you keep us up to date as to what you are doing together we can make a difference.
This started stated as an assignment from an instructor at Chico State University. She challenged us as part of our midterm assignment to not only learn facts about ethnic struggles, human trafficking, poverty, and other points of conflict for our fellow human beings . She challenged us to do something about them. This web site is going to be a part of my action plan and call to action.
I found it to be a very complex assignment in that it would be a very easy thing to simply write a check for a charity and call it a day. I do not in any way see that as a bad option, for some that is all we can do and it is better than not doing anything at all. For me it didn't feel like enough. So What my goal here is is to call myself to action every month. I have three children and I really want to set a good example for them as citizens of the world. So we as a family every month are going to make a donation to a charity. I am going to share with all of those interested in following our journey which charities we have chosen as a family and why.
I firmly beleive in the notion of thinking globally and acting locally so our contributions will not always be of the international variety. I hope to include endeavours such as our forray into urban farming inspired by anothe class,we will include photos. I beleive that so many tragedies happen due to poverty and ignorance. Yet I do not believe that I am in any position to tell anyone how they should live their lives. I can only offer my thoughts and my support. I don't think we as one little family can change the world all by ourselves , but I do beleive that if everyone that is able to take even a small step in a positive direction of acknowledging our common humanity that in the long run we will all become a better, wiser, more tolerant planet.
I am going to include links to sites , blogs and news feeds, many of these links will have disturbing content . They are not included for shock value they are intended to increase awareness. There are so many distressing issues in the world today the best thing that anyof us can do is to learn as much as we can, and know that no question is a stupid question, and that we are only ignorant if we choose to be. I know that I am far from an expert but I know that simply asking what can I do is no longer enough for me I have to do something.
